• 2018 - Position 7

    (a) Match Play. Red leads 2-0 to 7. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?

    (b) Money Play. Should Red redouble? If redoubled, should White take?

For money, this a huge redouble but also a comfortable take because of White’ strong home board and the closenees of the race. It is a double blunder not to redouble.

At the match score redoubling is worse than a double blunder. The cube will be coming back on 8 if White gets even a sniff of victory. Red does much better to hold the cube. He wins a gammon 10% of the time and that will get him to 6-0 (Crawford). He can always use the cube efficiently later if it becomes appropriate.

      a) redouble/take

      b) no redouble take - Once again this score is sensitive in positions like this. Red shouldn't give white the opportunity to recube.

For money this is RD/T. In (a) I wouldn't redouble. Who wants to see that cube coming back at 8? White would be happy to take.
