• 2017 - Position 183

Money Play. Should Red double? If doubled should White take?

This is the follow-up to Position 182.

Red’s position looks stronger than it is. Even after a hit he still has two rear checkers to extract and he is not even favourite to hit. The duplication of sixes is also very important.

It is a huge mistake to double here. It’s not quite a beaver but it is closer than you might think.

Even if red does hit here, he still has to extract his back two checkers as well as manage his front position, no easy feat. If he misses, then something has to give and white has an immediate advantage and maybe even a redouble. Huge no double, easy take/ beaver.
